Yea, endless recursion is easy to spot due to stack overflow errors, while endless iteration is a bugger indeed.
I could imagine that checking for the time spent in an iteration and logging the stack trace if the time goes beyond a pre-set default value would give some handsome info as well...

As an afterthought, the Infinite Loop ring that drops in VoES always makes me chuckle :D
